Quip's latest toothbrush blends smart features with a sleek design – it might be my new favourite

Ultra Next Generation Smart Sonic Toothbrush.

It takes a lot for a toothbrush to stand out as one of the best electric toothbrushes out there – mainly because the competition is seriously tough. These days, people want sleek aesthetics and real results, which is often easier said than done. That said, we’re seeing more brands rise to the challenge, and Quip’s new Ultra Next Generation Smart Sonic Toothbrush is easily one of the most impressive I’ve come across in a while.

With its seamless silicone finish and a suite of smart, user-friendly features, it’s clear this brush was designed to make an impact. The moment I saw it, I was itching to give it a go, and you'll find all my thoughts just below.

Quip Ultra Next Generation Smart Sonic Electric Toothbrush review: price and availability

There are a few different pricing options with the Quip Ultra, but first things first – Quip is a US-based brand. Don’t let that scare you off though, as it offers international shipping starting at $15 (around £12), so you can still get your hands on one if you're tempted by this review.

The toothbrush alone has an RRP of $110 (roughly £80), but there’s also a super convenient refill plan for $100 (around £75). With that, you get the brush up front and then new brush heads delivered every three months for $8 (£5-ish). Personally, I think that’s brilliant value for money, and I’ve already signed up.

You can buy both the toothbrush and the refill plan directly from Quip’s online store. There are five gorgeous colourways to choose from – I’ve been using the Dusk version for this review, but I love the Moss shade.

Quip Ultra Next Generation Smart Sonic Electric Toothbrush review: design and features

The Quip Ultra has some very cool features, and one of the most unique is the EasyClick Brush Pod system. Instead of swapping out the entire brush head like with most electric toothbrushes, you’re just replacing the bristle pod, which Quip claims reduces waste by 70%. This does mean you're tied to Quip’s own pods, but that’s becoming pretty standard these days. Honestly, I was surprised no one else had thought of this sooner as it makes a lot of sense.

The brush has 10 different intensity settings, which you control via a swipeable LED touchbar. Whilst it doesn’t offer specific settings like the Philips Sonicare 7100, there’s still a nice range of intensities to suit different needs. It also has a pressure sensor, a 2-minute timer and quadrant pulse reminders – basically all the essentials for a solid brushing session. That said, the brush doesn't oscillate, so you may want to look elsewhere if that's what you're after.

Battery-wise, Quip claims 30 days of use on a full charge, and charging takes 6–8 hours. I have more to say on this, but I'll get onto it in a little bit.

There's also an app that syncs with the brush to help track and improve your brushing habits. If you've read any of my past reviews, you'll know I have mixed feelings about toothbrush apps – they're a nice-to-have more than a must-have in my opinion. However, some people do love that extra data, so I won’t knock it.

Design-wise, the Quip Ultra is absolutely stunning. It’s got a soft-touch silicone finish that feels nice in the hand, and it comes with a mirror mount so you can keep it proudly on display. It also includes a stand and a travel case, which really elevate the overall package – it really feels like a high-quality product from start to finish.

Quip Ultra Next Generation Smart Sonic Electric Toothbrush review: performance

I’ve genuinely enjoyed using the Quip Ultra, and from day one, I was impressed by how different it felt compared to other brushes I’ve tried. The soft-touch design really won me over, and I actually began looking forward to brushing my teeth during the testing period. Wild, I know.

It’s worth noting that this is a softer brush overall. You can change the intensity levels, but the bristles themselves are gentle. This is great for sensitive gums, but maybe not ideal if you like a firmer brush. I’m hopeful Quip will expand the EasyClick system in the future to offer more brush types, but for now, there’s just the one. I personally didn’t mind it, but it’s something to consider.

I found the pressure sensor to be spot on – it picked up on even the tiniest bit of unnecessary pressure and let me know straight away. The timer functions were also accurate and helpful, keeping my brushing routine in check.

Quip's claim that the toothbrush provides 30 days of use on a full charge was pretty accurate, and mine lasted just under a month. The long charging time was frustrating, especially as I’m one of those people who forgets to charge until the very last second. That said, once it's charged, you’re good for a long stretch.

Over the testing period, my teeth consistently felt clean, and I did notice they looked a little whiter by the end. I’ve already been recommending the Quip Ultra to friends who’ve asked what brush I’ve been using.

Quip Ultra Next Generation Smart Sonic Electric Toothbrush review: verdict

The Quip Ultra is a sleek, well-designed electric toothbrush that offers solid performance with thoughtful features. Whilst the brush doesn't oscillate and the charging time is a bit long, it delivers excellent value and makes brushing feel genuinely enjoyable. With its stylish design, innovative EasyClick Brush Pod system and 10 intensity levels, it's a great pick for anyone after a high-quality, fuss-free brushing experience.

Quip Ultra Next Generation Smart Sonic Electric Toothbrush review: alternatives to consider

If you're looking for something similar, the closest comparison I can think of is the SURI Sustainable Sonic toothbrush. It has that same sleek design and also comes with thoughtful extras like a mirror mount and travel case. However, it’s a bit more limited in terms of intensity levels and app connectivity.

Another alternative would be the Philips Sonicare 7100 – it’s a lot pricier, but it offers a broader range of settings and features, which might appeal to those who like to fine-tune every aspect of their brushing.
