Quiet Merseyside village with highest covid rates in the borough

One quiet Merseyside village currently has the highest Covid-19 rates in the borough.

Part of Ainsdale has the highest coronavirus rates in Sefton. Although the number of cases is not extremely high in comparison to other points in the pandemic, the infection rate per 100,000 people is still high.

Ainsdale West has an infection rate of 1,417.5 cases per 100,000 people in the seven days to March 23, with 84 total cases registered. The number of cases actually fell from the seven days prior from 100 cases.

Ainsdale East is still relatively high compared to other parts of Sefton according to the government website with 78 total cases, rising 14 from the seven days prior. The case rate is also at 1,184.2 per 100,000, more than a number of areas in the borough and across Liverpool.

Parts of Southport also have high covid case rates, with Hesketh Park area of the town having a case rate of 1,270.8 and 96 cases, an increase of 16 from the previous seven days.

Sefton as a borough, in the seven days to March 23, had a case rate of 936.6, significantly below where Ainsdale West and East are at. The borough also has 2,584 total cases compared to Liverpool which has 3,604 total cases and a case rate of just 720.1.

This data comes as free testing is set to come to an end on April 1.
