The Canadian prime minister has paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth II's "impeccable grace" in a touching message. Justin Trudeau and his wife Sophie are in London for the late monarch's funeral which will take place on Monday (September 19).
The PM of Canada, which is in the Commonwealth, signed the book of condolence at Lancaster House. The couple was also pictured having attended the lying in state at Westminster Hall.
He tweeted: “Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II served for her entire life, and bore the weight of her duties with impeccable grace. Sophie and I are in London for Her Majesty’s funeral – and today, we marked the solemn occasion by signing the book of condolences.”
He added that he offered his condolences to the King at Buckingham Palace. He said: “This afternoon at Buckingham Palace, I met with His Majesty King Charles III.
“I offered my condolences to him and members of the Royal Family, as they mourn the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II – my thoughts, and the thoughts of many Canadians, continue to be with them.”
Tomorrow, Mr Trudeau meet UK Prime Minister Liz Truss in Downing Street. She is also set to speak to Irish Taoiseach Micheal Martin and Polish president Andrzej Duda.
