The Queen is expected to miss the traditional Easter Sunday service attended by the royal family this weekend.

The event is a staple of the royal calendar but the 95-year-old monarch, who has been experiencing mobility difficulties, is not expected to be joining other royals at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall represented her Majesty at Thursday’s Royal Maundy service at the chapel after Buckingham Palace announced she would not be attending.

Prince Charles distributed Maundy money to community leaders from across the country as he represented the Queen at the ancient ritual for the first time.

The ceremony involved presenting Maundy coins to those who have provided Christian service to the elderly, worked tirelessly during the pandemic or been a comfort to those in need.

However, it is also reported Charles and Camilla will also miss the Easter Sunday service.

The Queen attended a recent service commemorating the life of the Duke of Edinburgh with senior royals and a congregation of hundreds.

She has also been carrying out virtual events and her other duties as head of state.

At one of these virtual engagements to a London hospital, she spoke for the first time about overcoming a bout of Covid in February.

She admitted to feeling “very tired and exhausted” during her battle with Covid.

The Palace said at the time the Queen was experiencing “mild cold-like symptoms”.

After spending a night in hospital last October, she spent the following three months under doctors’ orders to only conduct light duties and missed a number of prominent events.

The monarch reached her Platinum Jubilee in February which marks 70 years on the throne.

A special bank holiday weekend will take place from Thursday 2nd to Sunday, June 5th, with events marking the historic occasion.
