Queen's touching tribute to Prince Philip with 'mourning' pin on Jubilee balcony

The Queen made a heartfelt tribute to her Prince Phillip, wearing a what appeared to be mourning black hat pin during her Platinum Jubilee balcony appearance, a year on after her late husband’s death.

The 96-year-old monarch appeared on the Buckingham Palace balcony along with members of her close family during the celebration to mark 70 years of her reign.

She spent most of those seven decades closely supported by her husband, Prince Phillip, who died last year, aged 99.

But during the celebrations, even without her husband present, she appeared to pay tribute to Phillip, adding a black mourning pin to the all green outfit that she wore.

Kate Middleton also may have paid a subtle but caring tribute to her husband’s late grandfather as she wore a pair of the Queen’s earrings that she had previously worn to his funeral.

During the Trooping the Colour, the Queen was joined by Prince Edward, 86, her cousin, who stepped up to support.

After the historic four day weekend and extended jubilee celebrations, Prince William and Kate Middleton shared a look inside their own jubilee.

They posted a number of snaps of their “fantastic” weekend on the couple’s official Instagram.

The images showed the couple across the celebrations from attending royal events, to dropping in on street parties.

They also delved behind-the-scenes revealing more intimate moments for the family.

One picture shows Kate and William dropping in on a street party in Kensington, only a short walk from their London home at Kensington Palace. In it they were chatting with local attendees.

Another picture shows Kate along with their three children, George, Charlotte and Louis on the steps of Buckingham Palace at Trooping the Colour.

Other images show some of the massive crowds that turned out over the weekend to celebrate.

And one video showed William walking late at night flanked by aides as they walk past an illuminated Buckingham Palace.

Alongside the heartfelt pictures, the caption read: “What a fantastic weekend of celebrations.

“Seeing people across the nation coming together with family, friends and loved ones has been extremely special.

“Thank you to everyone who turned out to show their gratitude to The Queen and her inspiring 70 years of leadership.

“From the crowds on the Mall to communities hosting street parties up and down the country, we hope you had a weekend to remember.

“We all had an incredible time, especially Louis …”

The last line refers to how the Cambridge’s son, Louis, became one of the unexpected stars of the Platinum Jubilee weekend.

Prince Louis stole the show on more than one occasion with his hilarious antics during some of the main events.

From shushing his mum Kate, to covering his ears and pulling faces alongside the Queen as she enjoyed the flypast, the four-year-old stole the hearts of Brits.

The young royal stole the show by dancing at the royal pageant before he was seen cheekily shushing and blowing raspberries at his mum .
