Although Queen Elizabeth II had to share her time between eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, she would always show her love for each of them through special treats. When the youngest royals would spend the night with the Queen, she would put down her royal crown to take on her treasured role of 'Gan-gan', as she was affectionately referred to as by Prince George.
Wanting to spend as much time with her loved ones as possible, the Queen was one of the first visitors to stay with William, Prince of Wales and his wife, Kate, after the birth of their first daughter, Charlotte. At the time, Kate recalled: "The Queen was really thrilled that it was a little girl. I think as soon as we came back here to Kensington she was one of our first visitors here.
"I think she’s very fond of Charlotte. She’s always watching what she’s up to."
Alike any grandparent, the Queen loved to treat the young royals at any opportunity she got, including when they spent the night in the palace.
Speaking on ITV documentary 'Our Queen at 90', Kate revealed: "She always leaves a little gift or something in their room when we go and stay, and that just shows her love for her family."
Royal expert Richard Price told The Sun: “The doting Queen takes time to select little presents that she leaves at the foot of George’s bed every time he stays over.
"It is telling that the Queen, who is expert at not appearing to have any favourites, goes out of her way to spend time with young George."
She was no stranger to thinking outside of the box when it came to presents either as one Christmas the Queen gifted great-grandson Archie a waffle maker - delivered to the home he shares in Montecito, California with parents Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
But it's not just George and Archie she would spoil with special gifts as she was close with every one of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The late Queen would spend a great deal of time with grandchildren Lady Louise and James Viscount, the children of Prince Edward and Sophie Wessex.
They would regularly visit Her Majesty, who they saw as "just their grandmother" as they live just 11 miles away from Windsor Castle at Bagshot Park.
She also has a close bond with Zara and Mike Tindall, and their daughters Mia and Lena, and son Lucas.
In February last year, Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank welcomed their first child, August, into the world.
Just months later, Princess Beatrice and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, had their first child after getting married during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.
