Queen's Platinum Jubilee Celebration attracts social media complaints amid accusations of 'horse cruelty' and 'poor production'

A live audience of over 4,000 people and viewers across the nation sat down last night (Sunday, May 15), to watch the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Celebration. One of many events being held in celebration of Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee, The Celebration, which was held between May 12-15 in the grounds of Windsor Castle, heavily featured one of Her Majesty's favourite things - horses.

The Celebration saw more than 500 horses and 1000 performers create a 90-minute piece of 'spellbinding arena theatre' which involved actors, artists, musicians, international military displays from the Commonwealth, Europe and our own Armed Forces, dancers and global equestrian displays. Sunday night's spectacular was delivered to the nation by Phillip Schofield and Julie Etchingham from Windsor Castle, with some of the entertainment industry's biggest names in attendance, including Tom Cruise, Adjoa Andoh, and Dame Helen Mirren.

Her Majesty could not stop smiling as she made her way to the royal box, accompanied by the Earl and Countess of Wessex. Despite having to cancel a number of appearances recently, including the State Opening of Parliament last week, The Queen appeared to be in good spirits, and used a walking stick to get around.

A Gallop Through History was billed to be a 'personal tribute to our monarchy', and took the audience through a journey spanning five centuries of history. Actor Tom Cruise announced the King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery by describing it as 'one of the most enthralling, thrilling, heart-in-mouth displays'.

Meanwhile, The Queen seemed to really enjoy the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force's steel drum troupe's rendition of Dancing Queen by ABBA, in addition to the traditional display put on by the Royal Cavalry Oman, which saw horses lying down on command. Although Her Majesty was in good spirits, some people were not impressed by the event.

Those watching along at home took to social media to share their views on the event. Jane Diamond said: "Turned it off. Rubbish coverage and not happy about the animals #queensplatinumjubilee"

YesLive wrote: "Horse cruelty at #queensplatinumjubilee"

"Not liking these horses being treated like this, training or not..." said Rough Diamond.

The use of horses in the celebration was not the only reason people were upset. Matt wrote: "So this performance isn't live and is possibly mashed together from the whole week's performances"

UKJacks123 said: "@ITV enough with the adverts and background stories! This is supposed to be a live event. We’re missing most of the performance!! Also the commentators need to stop talking during the show as well!! #RoyalWindsorHorseShow #queensplatinumjubilee"

Jen Smith Tweeted: "@ITV what are you doing? This is poorly produced. Can we please just watch the live #QueensPlatinumJubileeCelebration. Enough of the pre-recorded clips and adverts!"
