Queen's Park snap up ex-Kilmarnock, Hibs & St Mirren defender Jason Naismith

Queen's Park snap up ex-Kilmarnock, Hibs & St Mirren defender Jason Naismith

JASON NAISMITH has joined Queen's Park ahead of the new season.

The right-back, 28, has penned a one-year deal with the Spiders.

Naismith won the Championship last term with Kilmarnock.

The defender started out as a first-choice for the Ayrshire outfit during the first part of the season, however, slowly dropped down the pecking order due to injuries and lack of form.

The full-back has plenty of top level experience at St Mirren, Ross County and Hibs, so the move is the latest coup for Queen's Park in the summer window.

Naismith said: "This is a great opportunity for me to be joining an ambitious club at an exciting time. I know the manager from previously and know how he works so I just can’t wait to get started now.”

The club's director of football, Marijn Beuker, commented: “We are happy to have signed Jason. He is a physically strong defender, who is hard to take on. But at the same time he has a drive forward.

"Last season his involvement in creating threat was one of the highest of all backs in the Championship.

"That is something we are looking for in our attacking strategy and therefore we are happy to welcome Jason to our club.”

Coyle concluded: "Jason is a good addition to our squad who has played at the highest level and is a team player. We know he has a fantastic character, and we are looking forward to seeing him show his ability in a Queens Park shirt.”
