Queen's Park and Partick Thistle discover Viaplay Cup fate with duo entering at group stage

The season may only have just officially finished in Scotland but we already gearing up to the new campaign.

The Viaplay Cup group stage kicks off the fixture list in the SPFL in July and Queen's Park and Partick Thistle were both included in the draw as they bid to make an impressive start to the season before their Scottish Championship campaigns begin.

Kris Doolan's men suffered heartbreak in the Scottish Premiership play-off final as they lost out to Ross County on penalties. The Firhill men had a three goal advantage in the tie at one point and just minutes away from promotion but an incredible Staggies comeback ensured they would remain in the top division and leave Thistle in the second tier.

Queen's Park also entered that journey but lost to the Jags at the first hurdle with both sides aiming to go that step better next term. The Spiders will be returning to Hampden next season after Scotland's clash with England in September with games to played at Lesser Hampden prior - including home ties in this competition.

Both have now figured out who they will come up against with Queen's facing Motherwell, Queen of the South, East Fife, Elgin City.

Thistle will battle it out with Dundee United, Falkirk, Peterhead, The Spartans.

The task at hand will be to reach the knockout stages of the competition and join Rangers, Celtic, Aberdeen, Hearts and Hibs in the next round with the five excused due to European involvement.
