Victoria Beckham once joked the Queen "might fancy" husband David just before the footballer received his OBE from Her Majesty in 2003.
Beckham, now 47, queued for 12 hours to see Elizabeth II lying in state on Friday and was filmed wiping away tears as he walked past her coffin. The Queen passed away earlier this month and the UK is currently in a mourning period ahead of her funeral on Monday.
The former Manchester United, Preston Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain midfielder is a well-known royalist and was awarded an OBE by the Queen nearly 20 years ago for his services to football. He was the England captain at the time.
Footage of Victoria's light-hearted joke has emerged in recent days. In the video, the footballer said: "It's quite amazing really because you hear about all the other OBEs through the years and one of them was Bobby Charlton and he was my idol and my dad's idol.
"To hear I was receiving one of them. It first hit me when I got a letter that said David Beckham OBE on it. It's amazing. I was going to take my mum and dad, I know they would appreciate it but I think my nan and grandad, it's going to be an amazing experience for them. My nan's a big royal fan so it's nice for them."
Beckham added: "I met the Queen at the Commonwealth Games when I opened that in Manchester. She was lovely."

Victoria, who received her OBE from Prince William in 2017 for services to the fashion industry, then told her husband: "You look so nice; you look so handsome. I reckon you're going to get the Queen going you know."
She then added: "We are off to the palace and David's going to get his OBE and we're very proud of him... David's nan and grandad are really excited. It's going to be a really nice day. And then we're going to have a lunch afterwards. I can't believe you're going to be David Beckham OBE... I can't believe you beat me to it!"
Beckham reiterated his admiration for the Queen on Friday. He said: "To receive my OBE, I took my grandparents with me - who were the ones that really brought me up to be a huge royalist and a fan of the Royal Family - and obviously I had my wife there as well.
"To step up, to get my honour - but then also Her Majesty, to ask questions, to talk. I was so lucky that I was able to have a few moments like that in my life, to be around Her Majesty. Because we can all see with the love that has been shown how special she is and how special she was and the legacy that she leaves behind.
"It's a sad day, but it's a day for us to remember the incredible legacy that she's left.
"Every time that we stood there when we wore those Three Lion shirts and I had my armband and we sang God Save The Queen, that was something that meant so much to us. Every time that we did it, it was something special."
