Queen’s Jubilee: The best picnic and street party food from Aldi, Asda, Sainsbury’s and more

With the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations fast approaching, many of us will have big plans for the special four-day weekend.

From street parties to picnics, people across the country will be stocking up on tasty grub for the occasion. And supermarkets have made sure that shoppers are sorted for whatever they’ve got planned, putting together tasty selections covering both the sweet and the savoury.

The likes of M&S, Asda, Morrisons and more have curated food collections ideally suited to a Jubilee celebration, whether you’re planning a barbeque in the back garden or throwing a party in your street. Here’s what some of the major supermarkets have listed as their top picks for the Jubilee weekend, including limited-edition products brought out just for the occasion.

Sainsbury’s

Sainsbury’s is offering platters that would be ideal if you’re throwing a Jubilee-themed party or planning a picnic over the long weekend, all sorted into a special Jubilee section on their website. Their classic sandwich platter, priced at £13, serves five to six people with a selection of fillings and a vegetarian version available too.

A range of special Jubilee bites are available for a picky picnic or party, from coronation chicken or cauliflower pastries to sweet options like limited-edition Jubilee cupcakes and profiteroles. The supermarket also has a wide selection of hot food in their Jubilee section if you’re enjoying the long weekend from home, including a burger selection box for £10, kebab skewers, or a chicken BBQ platter priced at £20 perfect if you’re planning a barbeque.

Asda

Asda has Jubilee sections on their website dedicated to both street parties and barbeques, ensuring shoppers are covered no matter their plans. The supermarket also has some Jubilee specials on offer, including a coronation selection of pork sausages, chicken breast steaks and pork loin steaks, as well as bite-sized coronation chicken rolls, parcels and pasties.

Jubilee bundles are available to order on the Asda website which gives shoppers the chance to buy drinks and snacking selections suited to long weekend celebrations, from gin and tonic to assorted cake and biscuits bundles. Their George at Asda range also has a Jubilee selection which includes all the accessories you’ll need to throw your own street party or barbeque, while their Reign of Recipes section gives ideas for some Jubilee-themed dishes.

Aldi

Aldi has brought out a range of Jubilee-inspired craft beers, packed in limited-edition cans featuring some of the most iconic landmarks around Buckingham palace, as well as a special strawberry and mint gin from The Infusionist range. The supermarket has also done their own Jubilee version of pigs in blankets, this time with a cute corgi theme.

Aldi has curated sections on their website for each and every Jubilee occasion, including street parties, barbeques and afternoon tea. Their special edition coronation chicken-inspired snacks include coronation coleslaw and coronation chunky houmous.

Morrisons

Morrisons has plenty by way of party and picnic food, including some special additions to the shelves just or the Jubilee. A highlight from their bakery section is their £6 Clarence the Corgi cake in the traditional caterpillar style, as well as Union Jack fairy cakes - and they’ve even renamed the classic Victoria Sponge cake to the Elizabeth Sponge.

The Jubilee-themed savoury food on offer at Morrisons includes a range of coronation chicken-inspired dishes and snacks, from coronation scotch eggs to a coronation chicken and pork pie and coronation chicken baguettes.

Marks & Spencer

M&S has brought out an indulgent range of snacks specially for the Jubilee, from savoury dishes to sweet treats ideal for an afternoon tea. For a long weekend tipple they have introduced both a limited-edition ale and strawberry gin liqueur, and special nibbles including coronation quiche bites and coronation chicken sausages.

The supermarket has just brought back their sandwich platters available to order online, perfect for any planned street parties or picnics, and have also introduced a special jubilee sandwich filled with smoked ham and a whole egg, as well as a giant honey roast ham sharing roll. Their Jubilee sweet treats range includes mini corgi cakes filled with caramel mousse, as well as giving their Connie the Caterpillar cake a royal makeover along with a corgi edition of the cake too.
