The Queen's granddaughter Lady Louise Windsor reportedly worked a part-time job over the summer as she waited for her school exam results. The 18-year-old is believed to have taken up a role at a garden centre, where she earned £6.83 an hour, with customers remarking on the "polite and attentive" royal.
Buckingham Palace announced yesterday that Lady Louise has earned herself a spot at St Andrews University to study English - following in the footsteps of Prince William and Kate Middleton. While her grades have yet to be confirmed, to study English BA at St Andrews, undergraduates must receive at least two As and two Bs, the Mirror reports.
During her summer job, the teen reportedly worked on the tills, assisted customers and pruned and potted plants. One shopper was left in disbelief when she went to pay for her items - and was greeted by Her Majesty's granddaughter.
They said: "I couldn’t believe it was Lady Louise — I had to look twice. She is a really modest and sweet young woman who is polite and attentive to customers. She seemed to be loving the job. You’d never imagine the Queen’s granddaughter would take on a role working behind a till."
Another customer said staff appeared to "adore" her being at the centre, reports The Sun. Ingrid Stewart, editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine, said: “Isn’t it wonderful the Queen’s granddaughter rolled her sleeves up and got her hands dirty with a summer job before going to university — just like any other normal teenager.”
It's believed the daughter of Prince Edward and Sophie Wessex took A-levels in English, History, Politics and Drama. The Queen’s youngest granddaughter, the oldest child of Prince Edward and Sophie Wessex, will start her degree course in September.
The 18-year-old follows in the footsteps of her older cousin Prince William and his wife Kate, who both went to the university in Fife where they first met, with Kate studying history of art, and William geography.
A Palace spokesman said: “Having received her A-level results today, Lady Louise will start at St Andrews University in September to study English.”
The news will no doubt please her mum Sophie, who previously talked about her daughter's education saying that she hoped Louise would go to university - but added she wasn't putting any pressure on her to go. She said: "I wouldn’t force her, but if she wants to. She’s quite clever."
Louise, who has been dubbed the Queen's favourite grandchild, has largely grown up outside the media spotlight and had been attending a private school in Ascot. However, she played a public role in her grandmother's Platinum Jubilee celebrations and was also spotted at the Commonwealth Games with her parents and younger brother James several weeks ago.
Last year, Sophie also gave an interview to the BBC, where she talked about how she and her husband are "protective" of Louise but realise she has to be allowed to “live her life”
