Queen's feisty response after snapper's unexpected request during grand photoshoot

Having reigned for a record-breaking 70 years, the Queen has sat for countless photographers and artists.

And they've captured her in a range of images from formal line-ups to relaxed snaps alongside her family.

In 2007, famed American photographer Annie Leibovitz was given the great honour of photographing Her Majesty at Buckingham Palace.

The dramatic shots show the Queen posing in the palace's White Drawing Room and looking resplendent in various combinations of jewels, orders, robes and furs.

However, during the shoot, Annie made an unexpected request while the monarch was dressed in an opulent gown and dazzling tiara.

She asked the Queen if she would take off her tiara and said: "I think it will look better without the crown.

"I've heard that you do your own hair and make-up, which is so amazing, could we try without the crown?

"It will look better, less dressy."

And with her famous quick wit, the Queen issued a sassy response, by gesturing to her opulent robe and saying: "Less dressy? What do you think this is?"

However, the Queen duly obliged and Annie captured some wonderful shots of Her Majesty. And she must have impressed as Annie was invited back to the UK several years later to snap portraits for the monarch's 90th birthday.

She even later remarked in an interview how she was impressed with how "feisty" the Queen was.

Annie said: "What was remarkable about the shoot was her resolve, her devotion to duty, she stayed until I said it was over."

Meanwhile, last week, the Queen showed off an adorable never-before-seen photo showing her surrounded by some of her great-grandchildren.

The snap could be spotted in pictures released showing her holding an in-person audience with military officials in the Oak Room, her private sitting room, at Windsor Castle.

It's unclear where exactly the photo was taken - but it appears to have been at her Scottish Highlands retreat of Balmoral.

In it, the Queen can be seen sitting on a sofa surrounded by nine of her younger relatives.

Standing behind the sofa and posing for the camera appears to be her granddaughter, Lady Louise Windsor, beside her great-grandchildren Prince George, Isla Phillips, Princess Charlotte and Savannah Phillips.

Meanwhile, sitting beside her on the sofa appear to be Prince Louis, Mia Tindall and Lena Tindall. Therefore it's likely the baby she is cradling on her knee is Lucas Tindall, who was born last March.
