The Queen's Birthday Honours list has been announced. Famous names recognised in Wales include Wales football legend Gareth Bale, who has received an MBE, as well as former Welsh rugby player Brynmor Williams and singer Bonnie Tyler, who both receive MBEs. Other awards have been given to people who helped during the pandemic, including a headteacher who went "far beyond the remit of her paid role".
Gareth Bale has been honoured for services to football and charity, Brynmor Williams for services to sport and charity, and Hugh Morris, chief executive of Glamorgan Cricket, received an MBE for services to cricket and charity. Actor Damian Lewis receives a CBE for services to drama and charity for initiating the campaign to raise £1 million to provide food for NHS workers throughout Covid-19. Dr Gillian Richardson, who was head of the Welsh vaccine programme, has also been honoured. Singer Bonnie Tyler, from Swansea, has received an MBE.
Emma Lewis, 42, who set up the Roots Foundation has been honoured, as has Cardiff headteacher Michelle Jones, 48, who is headteacher at Lansdowne Primary School in Canton, Cardiff. Twice she postponed her own wedding to concentrate on the needs of vulnerable children.

Poet Gwyneth Lewis who was Wales' fist national poet of Wales and who penned the words for the front of the Wales Millennium Centre has been honoured, as has Nicola Bradbear from Monmouth who is a world authority on bees. Entrepreneur John Burns has also received an MBE.
BBC weatherman Derek Brockway has received a Medallists of the Order of the British Empire. Prime Minister Boris Johnson said: "This historic Platinum Jubilee is not only a celebration of the monarch but of the qualities she possesses. The honours she confers this week reflect many of those qualities that have been invaluable from all different walks of life and to communities across the UK. I pay tribute to all of this year’s winners. Their stories of courage and compassion are an inspiration to us all."
As part of her birthday celebrations, Eight new cities have been named including Wrexham.
