A friend of the late Queen who has shared number of posts on her Instagram about ‘disrespect’ after leaving her former grace-and-favour home. Angela Kelly was famously one of the Queen’s closest confidantes and personal dresser.
She helped the Queen chose some of her most iconic outfits, but, the Mirror reports, she has now left her accommodation on the Windsor estate. In the wake of Queen Elizabeth II’s death she is no longer at the home which was granted to her without paying rent for her service.
Ms Kelly, the late Queen’s personal assistant, adviser and curator, worked for the monarch for more than 25 years and was made a Commander of the RVO in the Queen’s demise honours list
It has since been reported the new monarch has secretly gifted the woman so close to his late mother a new home in Yorkshire, so she can be near her family. Pictures were revealed this week showing Ms Kelly packing up her belongings for a removals lorry.
On her Instagram stories she shared a number of melancholic posts and videos. In on story, a quote said: “No matter how kind and generous you are, you’ll never satisfy an ungrateful person. Learning how to remain calm when you’re disrespected is a superpower.”
In another, she shared the lyrics of a song called Broken Angel, which features the line: “You are the one. I miss you so much. Now you’re gone.” Reports at the weekend suggested King Charles had imposed a ban on Ms Kelly sharing any royal insider secrets as part of the deal for the new home.
The Mirror reported that it was thought Ms Kelly had permission from the Queen to pen a new book. The King reportedly felt that an updated version of Ms Kelly’s second book, ‘The Other Side Of The Coin: The Queen, The Dresser And The Wardrobe’ went “too far” in terms of revealing intimate details about the Royal Family.
In the book, Ms Kelly described the Queen’s behaviour following the funeral of her husband Prince Philip. “I helped her off with her coat and hat and no words were spoken. The Queen then walked to her sitting room, closed the door behind her, and she was alone with her own thoughts,” she wrote.
Charles is believed to have had concerns Ms Kelly’s books, which were mainly based on the monarch’s wardrobe but also included behind-the-scenes pictures. News of Ms Kelly's move came last month when she took to her personal Instagram account to reveal she would be moving - and said her work phone had been cut off.
Ms Kelly, a dock worker’s daughter from Liverpool, worked for the late Queen for almost 30 years and became one of her most trusted confidants. The pair were said to chat about “anything and everything”, as they drank tea and swapped jokes and anecdotes about their grandchildren.
In a rare interview with the Telegraph in 2007, she said: “We are two typical women. We discuss clothes, make-up, jewellery. We say, ‘Would this piece of jewellery look nice with that outfit?’, and things like that.”
A bubbly and hard-working royal aide, she kept the Queen’s style relevant and even added a touch of bling during the decades she worked for the head of state.
The Queen valued the opinion of her meticulous personal assistant and gradually over the years gave her free rein when helping her create a look for an event. Despite the late monarch’s advancing years, she had been prepared to embellish her style – under Ms Kelly’s direction – as a nod to modern times.
A pair of 3D glasses worn by the Queen during a film demonstration in Canada in 2010 were given a touch of glamour by Ms Kelly – Swarovski crystals forming the letter Q on their sides. During lockdown, when the Queen isolated with a small group from her household dubbed “HMS Bubble”, Ms Kelly was thought to be part of the team.
She once disclosed in an interview: “We are two typical women. We discuss clothes, make-up, jewellery.”
