Jordan's Queen Rania stressed the pressing need for a united front to face environmental crises, calling on the global community to encourage environmental initiatives, innovation, and concerted action to fix the planet.
She made the remarks on Thursday at the first-ever Earthshot Innovation Showcase at the DP World’s Expo 2020 Dubai Pavilion.
Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, who launched the award in 2020, also took part, as did the DP World Chairman and CEO Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem.
Speaking as a member of the Earthshot Prize Council, Queen Rania warned the major innovators working on environmental issues and global business leaders in attendance about the threats facing the environment.
“When it comes to the environment, every region is under threat,” she said, adding that “human ingenuity is the ultimate renewable resource. And the fuel we need to save our planet rests in our own heads, hearts, and hands.”
The Earthshot Prize is a global environmental award that seeks to discover, accelerate, and scale groundbreaking eco-innovations to repair and regenerate the planet.
Five innovative solutions from the 2021 Earthshot Prize finalists were showcased, representing three of the Prize’s five categories: Revive our Oceans, Fix our Climate, and Build a Waste-free World.
