Wullie Gibson has left his role as Queen of the South boss.
The League One side announced the split from the 38-year-old manager “by mutual consent” on Wednesday night citing poor results.
After reviewing the season so far the club said results “haven’t been good enough” and agreed the time was right for Wullie to step aside, with assistant Grant Murray taking temporary charge of the side at Falkirk tonight.
Wullie said: “I’m obviously extremely disappointed.
“The season has been frustrating for everyone and hasn’t gone the way we hoped due to inconsistency.
“I still believe in the players and hope they can push up the table.
“Although it hasn’t turned out how I’d hoped, I thank the club for the opportunity and wish them and the players the best going forward.”
This was Gibson’s first management role after stepping into the dugout in February as caretaker to replace Allan Johnston.
He oversaw a Challenge Cup run where the Doonhamers lost to Raith Rovers in the final and, despite a brief turnaround in results, the club was relegated from the Championship.
Despite that there was widespread support for Gibson among a sizeable portion of fans and he was named as the permanent boss in May.
However, Queens have won just six of a possible 18 league games in this campaign. They sit in seventh place, level with eighth place Kelty Hearts, who came from behind to beat Queens 2-1 on Saturday.
Chairman Billy Hewitson said: “There is no doubt that Wullie is Queen of the South through and through and wants the best for the club.
“We thank Wullie for his efforts and wish him well for the future.”
