Queen of the South boss undecided on whether to continue playing

Queen of the South boss Wullie Gibson has still to make a decision on whether to play next season.

He was player manager for a large chunk of the last campaign after replacing Allan Johnston in the Palmerston hot seat.

However, Gibson, 37, is swithering about hauling on the boots again in League One next season.

He said: “I have not made a decision on that because first and foremost the priority is building the team.

“I have just kind of kept myself out of the equation, but I have been keeping myself fit and was in the gym the other day.

“So there will be no decision until the recruitment process is complete.”

Gibson admitted he had been tracking Annan’s Owen Moxon but added: “I am afraid he is heading for bigger things.

“I watched him in their play-off final against Edinburgh City last Friday at Galabank and I imagine that is why Ian McCall from Partick Thistle was there too.

“I have a few more players that I am tracking and working away quietly to try and get things done.

“It would not be fair on the players or their clubs to name them, especially if they are still under contract.

“I have also managed to fix up a couple of pre-season friendlies. They are both away and against opposition from higher divisions but again I cannot release the names until everything is finalised with the clubs involved.

“I would also like to get a bigger club in a home friendly to test the players and also let the fans see the new boys we are bringing in ahead of the Betfred League Cup ties.

“So, it is a busy time and I want to add quality players to the squad.

“Last season I felt we had a big squad but didn’t have a lot of quality in it and when we suffered two or three injures to key players like Aidan Fitzpatrick then we paid the price for that.

“It will probably be a smaller squad for next season but with more quality.”
