Queens boss Wullie Gibson was full of praise for Harry Cochrane after the midfielder netted a stunning equaliser in Saturday’s 3-3 draw with Airdrie.
The former Jambo’s 25-yard effort pegged back the hosts to 2-2 just before the half-time interval.
Airdrie again edged in front through Callum Smith on the hour but Gavin Reilly rescued a deserved point for the Doonhamers with a header just a couple of minutes later.
The point keeps Queens in seventh but they’re now three points clear of Clyde and Kelty Hearts and three behind Alloa Athletic who all lost.
Gibson praised Cochrane’s finish. He said: “Harry’s got that. I spoke to him recently and he’s trained with a real enthusiasm and he’s added bits to his game that we’ve asked him to do.
“It’s because of that he got his opportunity to start and he’s had a great finish for the second. It’s just a shame it wasn’t enough to be a winner.
“I feel it was a game that either side could’ve won. We’ve shown good character to come back from losing positions on two occasions, but I felt that there were a few things missing and you could see that.
“On reflection, even though Airdrie finished with 10 men, it was probably a fair result.”
It was a fast start with the Doonhamers taking the lead through Josh Todd after three minutes. But they found themselves behind in the game just nine minutes later with Gibson, right, annoyed at his team switching off. Gibson added: “We’ve been on an alright run with two wins and a draw in our last three games – we should’ve won last week.
“And I thought it was a great start to the game but then we switched off. Against good sides you get punished. But even when we fall 2-1 down we’ve shown good character to come back. I said at half-time that the game was there to be won and to go and have a go.
“If we kept a clean sheet in the second half we’d win the game because I knew there would be another goal but with Airdrie taking the lead at 3-2 you could’ve came away with nothing. But we showed a quick response to that with a good finish from Gav and it’s a share of the spoils.”
