Queen Elizabeth II's Emmerdale set visit which saw dramatic stunt go 'wrong'

Queen Elizabeth II visited the set of Emmerdale and everything went ‘wrong’.

We’ve previously taken a look back at Her Majesty’s tour of the Emmerdale set back in 2002. During her Golden Jubilee tour, she went to the set, at Harewood House estate, near Leeds, to meet the cast and crew of the show.

While there, she witnessed the Post Office from the show going up in flames as part of a major stunt. Although, as This Morning’s soap expert Sharon Marshall revealed, not all went to plan as some elements went 'wrong'.

“She went to see the actual scene they were filming of the post office being blown up,” Sharon said. “A piece of wood apparently blew over and came a lot closer than everyone was expecting.”

“That’s why Elizabeth Estensen looks a little worried,” ‘But as host Phillip Schofield added, as images came on screen: “The Queen’s not flinching!”

This was confirmed by cast members on the day. Emmerdale legend Mark Charnock was on set and said: “She was cool as a cucumber when the explosion went off. The rest of us jumped out of our skins.”

Elsewhere during her visit, the Queen popped over to the village bed and breakfast and iconic pub The Woolpack pub. Emmerdale producer, at the time, Tim Fee was on hand to escort the Queen through the village and explain some of the programme's dramatic history.

Later that day, The Queen was entertained by a Festival Celebration that featured local choirs, musicians and Yorkshire celebrities like Mel B and opera singer Lesley Garrett.

We know the Queen had great taste and we like to think Emmerdale was her favourite soap.
