Queen Elizabeth II: All the things people cannot do on day of the monarch's funeral

Since the passing of the Queen on Thursday (September 8), many shops and other businesses have taken to social media to pay their respects.

And in a bid to show how much the monarch means to them, many of them have also decided to observe reduced hours or shut completely for the full day to allow staff to pay their respects to the late monarch who died at the age of 96.

It comes as the UK is in an official period of national mourning.

So with many people set to shut their doors on Monday, here's what people across the UK can't do on the day.

What you cannot do on the day of Queen Elizabeth II's funeral

Get the weather

The Met Office tweeted that they will only be posting "daily forecasts and warnings" as a mark of respect stating that "it is right at this sad time to pause other non-operational content that isn't a forecast or warning, to ensure the public can focus on any potential impactful weather during this period."

They later clarified: "The use of the word 'daily' in our earlier Tweet may have given the false impression that we’ll only be posting once a day. It was always our intention to continue to provide forecasts and warnings for the days ahead, through Twitter, multiple times a day."

Eating out and takeaways

Fast food chains such as McDonald's have announced that they will close on September 19.

Hospital, GP and dentist appointments

Due to it being official declared a bank holiday, many people are having their GP, hospital and dentist appointments cancelled. This isn't the case for everyone though and people should check that their appointment is still going ahead.

Museums

The majority of museums and public gardens will be closed for the funeral, including the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh. Meanwhile, the National Trust for Scotland has confirmed their buildings and gardens will be closed.

Royal Mail

All Royal Mail services will be suspended across the country. Meanwhile, the 114 Post Office branches run by the service will close on the day of the funeral while others run by the likes of WH Smith, Tesco, Co-Op and Spar are also likely to close.

Funerals

Social media has also seen a backlash when it comes to funerals with many said to be cancelled if it was set to take place on September 19. The statement followed concerns on social media, as The National Association of Funeral Directors stated: "Some funerals will go ahead, others are moving to a different date - led by the needs and wishes of the bereaved families involved."

Not everyone is having their funeral cancelled however.

Shopping, supermarkets and petrol stations

Many supermarkets will observe reduced hours on this day and for some, they will close completely. The same also applies to petrol stations such as Morrisons. The supermarket giant have also said that they've turned down 'beep' sounds at their checkouts as a mark of respect.

Other stores such as Primark, Poundland and IKEA will also close.

You can find the list of shops, pubs and other business that are set to close or reduce their hours here.

Centre Parcs

Center Parcs found itself at the centre of a Twitter storm on Tuesday after telling customers they would have to leave booked accommodation on Monday. The holiday firm was heavily criticised earlier for its decision that would have seen guests kicked out of accommodation out of 'respect' to the Queen before returning the next.

Initially the firm told people they could remain - but must stay inside their lodge. The latest twist in the story came after the caravan holiday parks reversed the decision to close its accommodation for the Queen's funeral on Monday following backlash from guests.
