Queen Elizabeth: BBC One suspends usual programming as Royal Family arrive at Balmoral

BBC One have suspended their usual planned programming services following an update on the Queen's health.

It comes as Buckingham Palace today (September 8) announced doctors were "concerned" about the monarch.

A statement published by the Palace reads: "Following further evaluation this morning, The Queen’s doctors are concerned for Her Majesty’s health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision.

"The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral."

The television presenters on BBC One can now be seen wearing black suits and ties as we wait to hear from Buckingham Palace.

If the Queen were to die, although it's worth noting nothing has been suggested, BBC One will show her portrait before playing the national anthem where the BBC will then share the announcement: "This is BBC Television News. Buckingham Palace has just announced the death of the Queen."

Whilst people begin speculating about what is happening, this afternoon, BBC One pulled Bargain Hunt off the air, replacing it instead with rolling news coverage. They announced the change by telling viewers tuning in: "Welcome to viewers on BBC One. We have had news from Buckingham Palace that the Queen is under medical supervision at Balmoral."

Much of the shows that were due to air on the channel have now moved to BBC Two, with Doctors currently being shown, followed by Money For Nothing.

Members of the Royal Family are now travelling to the Scottish Royal residence, with the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall and the Duke of Cambridge on their way, Clarence House and Kensington Palace both confirmed.

Less than an hour ago, Prince William was spotted arriving at Aberdeen Airport. However, it is being reported that the Duchess of Cambridge will remain at home in Windsor with their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, as they have all began their first day of school today.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were due to attend the WellChild Awards ceremony in London on Thursday evening. However, reports now suggest Prince Harry is now travelling to see the Queen and will not attend the ceremony. Meghan will also not attend the awards but will stay in London.

In response to the news on the Queen, Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon tweeted: "All of us are feeling profoundly concerned at reports of Her Majesty’s health. My thoughts and wishes are with the Queen and all of the Royal Family at this time."

Prime Minister Liz Truss said: "The whole country will be deeply concerned by the news from Buckingham Palace this lunchtime".

She added: "My thoughts - and the thoughts of people across our United Kingdom - are with Her Majesty The Queen and her family at this time".
