Queen dies aged 96: Landmarks lit up and flags at half mast as world mourns loss of monarch

Respects have been paid to the Queen at landmarks and events around the world.

The Empire State Building in New York was illuminated after sunset last night in purple and silver to “honour the life and legacy of Her Majesty”

At a New York Yankees game held at Yankees Stadium players and spectators stood during a moment of silence as an image of the monarch was shown on the big screen.

In Las Vegas images of a smiling Queen were shown on casino marquees.

In Sydney flags were flown at half mast on the harbour bridge while member of the public left messages of condolences for her at St Andrew’s Cathedral.

While at the US Capitol in Washington the American flag flew at half mast.

President Joe Biden ordered all US flags around the world to fly at half-mast until the Queen’s state funeral.
