THE Queen has delayed her Privy Council meeting upon doctors’ advice to rest, Buckingham Palace has announced.
The news follows the Queen appointing Liz Truss as the new Prime Minister at Balmoral Castle – the first time she has done so north of the Border, with the ceremony usually taking place at Buckingham or Windsor Castle.
A spokesperson for Buckingham Palace said: "After a full day yesterday, Her Majesty has this afternoon accepted doctors' advice to rest.
"This means that the Privy Council meeting that had been due to take place this evening will be rearranged."
She is still residing at Balmoral Castle where she accepted Boris Johnson’s resignation and oversaw the transfer of power to Truss.
The Queen’s latest medical advice does not include a hospital stay for the 96-year-old head of state, who has recently been suffering problems with her mobility.
The now postponed Privy Council meeting, which she was to attend virtually, was set to be held on Wednesday.
Had the meeting gone ahead, Truss would have sworn her oath as first lord of the Treasury while new cabinet ministers would have been formally appointed to their roles, and also made privy counsellors - if they were not already.
In the last year, the Queen has had to cut a number of her official engagements short and did not take part in large chunks of her Platinum Jubilee celebrations, making a brief appearance on the Buckingham Palace balcony.
And earlier in the summer, she did not attend Royal Ascot for the first time since ascending the throne, with the Duke of Kent filling in to lead the royal procession.
In May, for the first time in 59 years, the Queen was forced to miss the state opening of Parliament upon medical advice following "episodic mobility issues".
The Queen was also diagnosed with Covid in February, later saying that the disease made her feel “very tired and exhausted”.
