Queen Consort greets Paul O'Grady with warm hug and kiss days after Meghan Markle's 'jarring' affection claim

Camilla, The Queen Consort makes an appearance in the newest episode of Paul O Grady: For The Love of Dogs, which airs on Monday, December 19. In the special hour-long edition of the popular ITV show, Battersea Dog's Home celebrates its 160th anniversary, and Paul and the senior Royal sit down to discuss why she's a patron of the charity.

Contrasting Meghan Markle's recent comments on royal attitude to affection, Paul and The Queen Consort greet each other with a hug and a kiss. In the Netflix docu-series, Harry & Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex said: "I was a hugger. I didn't realise that that is really jarring for a lot of Brits."

Speaking to the Daily Mail's Richard Eden about this, Paul said: “Camilla’s a really funny woman — you can have a great laugh with her and you don’t feel like you’re on ceremony. I always get a big hug and kiss from her, too, which always shocks everybody.”

During the episode, Paul and The Queen Consort (who was the Duchess of Cornwall at the time) discuss their shared love of dogs. In the above clip, the pair meet Reggie at Clarence House. Reggie is an eight-year-old giant Schnauzer with a life-threatening gastric issue, looking for a forever home in time for Christmas.

Elsewhere in the episode, Paul and The Queen Consort work together to feed West Highland White Terrier, George, a worming tablet. Whilst the TV personality isn't successful, the Royal takes to the task with ease and Paul says that she has the "magic touch".

Announcing The Queen Consort joining the show in February, Paul wrote on social media: “A lovely lady who’s passionate about dogs. There was a competition to see who’s dog would run straight to their owner ignoring the food, squeaky toys etc put in their way.

“The Duchess’s dog ran straight to her, ignoring the temptation put in her way whilst Sausage headed straight for the press and photographers not a bit interested in the competition. She was obviously more interested in raising her profile and posing for the paps. A great day and the episode will be out later this year.”
