Queen and Charles left 'irritated' over Meghan Markle's fallout with dad, claims book

Meghan Markle 's refusal to reconcile with her father is believed to have "irritated" the Queen and Prince Charles, a new bombshell book has claimed.

In the run-up to Megan and Harry's wedding in May 2018, the couple's relationship with the Duchess of Sussex's dad Thomas Markle came under the spotlight.

Thomas had hit out at the "outdated" royal family in TV interviews as well as claiming he did not attend the royal nuptials due to being embarrassed for staging awkward paparazzi photos in the build-up to the ceremony at Windsor Castle.

Meghan and Harry's apparent refusal to mend the rift is said to have caused confusion at the palace, with both the Queen and Charles suggesting the Duchess fly out to speak to her father, according to a new book.

According to an extract in The Sun from 'Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the war between the Windsors', written by author and investigative journalist Tom Bower, Prince Harry and Meghan gave their reasons for not reconciling with Thomas, but the inconsistencies had started to irk Charles.

Harry is believed to have explained to Prince of Wales that Meghan did not phone or email her father due to suspicions that they were both compromised.

By July 2018 Charles' irritation had reportedly reached boiling point and he addressed the situation with his youngest son.

“He had never really understood her or what she wanted," Bower wrote.

"That week, his irritation about Thomas Markle’s TV appearances, especially his criticism of the Royal Family, came to a head. ‘Can’t she just go and see him and make this stop?'” Charles is alleged to have "berated" Harry.

Bower continued: "The inconsistencies of Meghan’s excuses not only irritated Charles but perhaps also the Queen."

Charles and Her Majesty are believed to have "urged" Meghan to fly to America to put the rift to one side but she rebuffed their idea to the senior royals' dismay.

She claims that the it was "completely unrealistic" of the royal family to think she could fly to Mexico incognito and turn up at her father's house without a "frenzy of media attention" which could "bring more embarrassment to the Royal Family".

Less than two years later in January 2020, Harry and Meghan took to Instagram to announce their intention to step back as senior members of the Royal Family.

Their statement read: “After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution.

"We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen."
