Queen advertises for someone to move into Buckingham Palace and look after her horses

The Queen is on the hunt for someone to look after the horses that pull the Royal ceremonial carriages.

The role is described as an opportunity to play a part in the ceremonial events "that are enjoyed by millions".

The post, based at the Royal Mews in London, comes with accommodation and a uniform.

The new helper must have stable management experience, be a "highly capable and confident rider" and live on site.

"It's knowing the horses are ready to play their vital role in Royal events," says the advert on the Royal website.

"It's feeling inspired to deliver to the highest standards, helping to present ceremonial activities that are enjoyed by millions. This is what makes working for the Royal Household exceptional.

"Joining us as a Liveried Helper you'll help provide daily care for the horses at the Royal Mews.

"You'll exercise and train them every day, getting them ready for their role in ceremonial activities.

"From maintaining the stables to cleaning saddlery and harnesses, you'll help to ensure the Royal Mews is kept in the very best condition.

"You'll also have the opportunity to play a part in the ceremonial events themselves, assisting with riding and driving the horses on the day.

"The standards you'll aim for will provide the biggest challenge, and the greatest reward.”

The advert went on to note that while the position was based at Buckingham Palace, it involved frequent travel to Windsor Castle.

Accommodation is provided at both sites, it said.

The successful applicant would have a “passion for horses”, experience of working in a yard and would be ready to take their career “to the next level”.

"You're a highly capable and confident rider, with a willingness to acquire knowledge of driving carriages and of state harnesses. You'll also have a good grounding knowledge in all aspects of stable management,” it read.

"You're an outstanding team player, with a flexible and proactive approach to work.

"Above all, you'll be committed to achieving high standards every day, making you a real asset to the Royal Mews team.

"You can look forward to working in a unique and stimulating work environment, and be rewarded with a comprehensive benefits package, including 33 days holiday (inclusive of Bank Holidays), a generous employer contribution pension scheme and support for your continuous professional development. In addition, as this is a live-in role, you will be provided with accommodation, for which your salary will be adjusted.

Applications close on July 3. The salary is described as "competitive".
