Almost a quarter of Brits say they are skipping meals because they can’t afford to buy food due to the cost-of-living crisis, a new study has found. The most affected cities are Belfast and Brighton, with 29% of residents skipping meals, followed by Birmingham and Leeds at 26% each.
The findings from FLORA also reveal that over a quarter of Brits are choosing unhealthy meal options in a bid to cut costs.
With energy bills continuing to rise, families are looking for ways to cut down on costs with nearly one in five ditching meals out. To help reduce costs and make the most of leftovers, FLORA has partnered with nutritionist Rob Hobson.
Rob says: “Reducing food budgets can unfortunately impact nutrition and health for people of all ages. However, there are many ways to create healthy meals on a budget and to make the most of what you have so that no food is wasted.
“My tips include using leftovers from dinner, batch cooking for the week, and making small switches like changing dairy butter to spreads.”
