Quandre Diggs was a three-time Pro Bowler after landing with the Seattle Seahawks in a mid-season 2019 trade. But despite thriving after being run off by Matt Patricia’s Detroit Lions, he couldn’t escape the gravity of Seattle’s rolling rebuild under new head coach Mike Macdonald.
Diggs was one of three Seahawk starters released Tuesday as the franchise readied for its first free agent frenzy without Pete Carroll at the helm since 2009. The veteran safety was a difficult, but justifiable cut to make. Jettisoning his contract saved the team $11 million in salary cap space — a significant outlay for a 30-year-old safety coming off his worst season with the team.
Diggs, fortunately, was able to take the news in stride with a pitch perfect Twitter response.

Fortunately, Diggs still has plenty to offer NFL teams. So while he’ll have a few more days off in his immediate future, he’s unlikely to linger in free agency for long.
