Quandre Diggs calls Seahawks’ run defense ‘our Kryptonite right now’

The Seahawks’ run defense is so bad that it might just cost them a chance to make the postseason. Sunday’s humilating loss to the Panthers dropped Seattle out of the playoff picture and painted a grim picture about this team’s inability to address its greatest weakness – one every opponent knows and is exploiting every game.

In the locker room afterwards, free safety Quandre Diggs compared the run defense to Superman’s greatest weakness, per Mike Dugar at the Athletic.

“That’s our kryptonite right now, until we stop that, teams are going to continue to do it.”

That they will. Especially because this defense is no Superman even on a good day with no Kryptonite around.

So far this season the Seahawks have allowed their nine teams to rush for at least 144 yards on them. Several have gone off for 200+ yards.

Kryptonite poisons Superman, but it was Doomsday that actually killed him. That came down to getting beat down by a mindless monster who was simply bigger, stronger and meaner than Superman. It’s the same dynamic for Seattle’s defense, which has gotten dominated in the trenches all season.

If the Seahawks want to avoid their own Doomsday and take advantage of this window of opportunity, they’ll have to become more formidable in the trenches – especially on defense.
