Quality Street to change Green Triangles and Orange Crunch for a 'limited period'

Quality Street fans may find that their tubs look a little different this year, as Nestle has had to change two of its popular chocolates.

The multinational food manufacturer has had to temporarily change the colour of wrapping on Green Triangle and Orange Crunch chocolates following a shortage of foil.

A limited run of Quality Street tubs, pouches and cartons will feature different wrapping on the two chocolates for the first time in its history.

Some of the products will feature the Green Triangle wrapped in an unfamiliar gold foil, while the Orange Octagon Crunch will be wrapped in a dark bronze foil.

Despite the temporary new foil colour, both of the chocolates have not been changed and are completely identical to the ones wrapped in the green and orange.

The rare packs were produced at Nestlé's Halifax factory, the home of Quality Street, when it became clear that stocks of green and orange foil would not cover a planned production run that took place last week.

Nestle made the decision to change the wrapping instead of axing the chocolates to make sure that Quality Street fans could get the full experience this Christmas.

Quality Street's Senior Brand Manager, Jemma Handley, said: "I promise this isn't a publicity stunt. We've not added full size chocolate bars to the tin or removed the coconut flavour from a handful of tubs.

"We simply didn't have enough of the right coloured foil to cover the production run of the two sweets in question and, rather than leave them out of the selection altogether, we decided to use different colours for a very limited period.

"We are fairly sure this is the first time this has happened so anybody who finds a green triangle or an orange crunch in a different coloured foil will have something of rarity on their hands. I am pleased to say that it's the same delicious hazelnut and orange sweets inside the wrappers, regardless of their colour."

Production at the factory has now gone back to normal with the Green Triangle and Orange been restored to their usual foil wrappings, but fans will be able to find packs with the temporary change on retailer's shelves across the UK and Ireland over the new few weeks.

It's not the first change that Nestle has made to their popular Quality Street tubs this year either, as they announced a change to its wrappings in a bid to become more environmentally-friendly.

Earlier this year, Nestle announced that it would be axing its iconic shiny wrapping for the first time in 86 years with new cellulose wrappers in a move that will remove two billion pieces of packing from its supply chain.

Only the Green Triangle and Orange Crunch were the two sweets not to be included in the new change, as their foil-only wrapping comes without an additional layer of cellulose.
