QPR continue Gareth Ainsworth talks as Charlton deny Dean Holden approach

QPR remain in talks with Gareth Ainsworth over their vacant managerial post, with Charlton denying any approach has been made for Dean Holden.

The Championship side, who are 17th having won just one of their last 17 League games, are searching for their third manager of the season following Neil Critchley’s sacking on Sunday.

Wycombe boss Ainsworth, who spent seven years at Loftus Road as a player, quickly emerged as the front runner on Monday, with the QPR hierarchy keen to make a swift appointment in a bid to reverse their alarming slide.

There were also reports that talks had been held with Holden, but Addicks sources insist there has been no formal approach for their manager, who is in ongoing discussions over a new contract.

Holden arrived at The Valley in December as part of a major overhaul of the club’s leadership but the three senior management staff appointed alongside him have already left following the failed takeover by a Charlie Methven-led consortium.

The former Bristol City boss’ contract is up at the end of the season but owner Thomas Sandgaard has stressed his desire to extend the 43-year-old’s stay.
