QLD TikTok Influencer Accused Of Torturing Her Child For Financial Gain Granted Bail

CONTENT WARNING: This article discusses alleged child abuse.

A Queensland woman who is accused of abusing her one-year-old daughter for social media fame and money to “immense distress and pain” has been granted bail.

On Wednesday, a 34-year-old woman, who is believed to be a social media influencer, was granted bail under strict conditions by a Queensland magistrate.

The woman, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, is facing multiple charges including five counts of administering poison with intent to harm, three counts of preparation to commit crimes with dangerous things, and one count each of torture, making child exploitation material, and fraud.

Police allege the incidents took place between August and October of 2024, and that she gave her daughter, who had medical conditions, unauthorised and over-the-counter medicine without medical approval.

It’s also alleged that the woman of raising $60,000 through a GoFundMe page.

During the bail application, crown prosecutor Jack Scott told the court that the child was hospitalised for tuberous sclerosis complex and was prescribed carbamazepine — a medication for epilepsy — but doctors stopped using it.

Although doctors had halted the use of carbamazepine, it was alleged that the woman held onto the prescription and administered the medication from August to October last year.

Per 9News, footage recorded October 3, 2024, allegedly depicted the woman moving a video camera that was focused on her daughter during a brain activity test “to avoid detection” of her actions.

The prosecutor also alleged to the court that the footage showed the woman covering the baby with a blanket before “fiddling” with the child’s nasogastric tube.

After a test was conducted, doctors found multiple non-prescribed medications — including carbamazepine and diazepam — in the baby’s system at “arguably dangerous levels”.

Scott also told the court that the alleged unauthorised medication administered by the mother put the child’s health at risk and may have resulted in unnecessary surgery.

In granting bail on Wednesday, Deputy Magistrate Stephen Courtney said the argument that the woman could pose a risk to the child was dependent on her having physical access.

To “mitigate the risk”, the woman was granted bail on the condition that she must not approach within 100 metres of the baby. However, the woman could connect the child under supervised visits through audiovisual means.

Courtney also said it was unlikely that she would interfere with witnesses and that there was no “particularisation” of threats from the community.

Along with granting bail, Courtney said the police case against the woman was “strong” and “the offending serious”. He estimated the trial could take at least two years if the matter remained contested.

“On current information, I’m satisfied it is a strong police case that the defendant administered unprescribed drugs to her daughter,” he said, per ABC News.

“Primary evidence, seems to me, is what’s captured on CCTV on October 3 and the results of a drug screening. Those things can’t be changed.

“I would’ve thought the medical practitioners would be immune from influence.

“The offending is serious, and if convicted, the sentence I think will be several years with actual time to be served.

“The alleged conduct is clearly offensive to any right-thinking person.

“But the community anger triggered by the allegations is not directly relevant to the question of bail.”

The matter will return to court on February 17.
