Queensland Police have confirmed they’re looking into reports of harm against a one-year-old girl, following widespread accusations on social media that a blogger family was harming their own child.
The family — members of whom cannot be named for legal reasons — are being investigated over allegations their daughter was drugged and subjected her to unnecessary medical procedures. They amassed thousands of followers by documenting her battles with a serious medical condition, with a reported $62,000 raised for the family via a GoFundMe.
The daughter has now been taken into care.
“Police are aware of reports of harm against a 1-year-old girl,” police told PEDESTRIAN.TV in a statement.
“The Queensland Police Service has taken action to protect the child and commenced an investigation. As this is an active investigation, it would be inappropriate to provide further comment.” No one has been charged.
Allegations about the family began spreading online after a text message — which P.TV has been unable to independently verify — claimed the daughter was being drugged by one or both of her parents. The text also claimed the baby’s brain surgery “found nothing”, but a toxicology report found a high reading for benzodiazepines (aka a sedative).
The family’s social media accounts have since been taken down.
The GoFundMe account has also been taken down, with a spokesperson telling P.TV it’s investigating the fundraiser and cooperating with police.
“Our Trust and Safety specialists are investigating the accusations made as part of our standard due diligence process,” a spokesperson said.
“This includes cooperating with police investigations.”
The spokesperson confirmed that while an investigation is ongoing, no further funds can be raised or withdrawn.
Requests for comment from the family’s talent agency were not answered by the time of publication.
