Brisbane cops appear on assault charges

Two Brisbane police officers have faced court after allegedly using excessive force against a man in their custody.

Senior constables John David Wilkins and Giuseppe Cotroneo have each been charged with one count of assault occasioning bodily harm over the incident in Ashgrove on August 3.

Wilkins, 59, and Cotroneo, 51, have been stood down from duty during the legal proceedings.

They were charged after an Ethical Standard Command investigation.

The pair - who are on bail - appeared briefly in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.

Their matters have been adjourned until November 2.
