Workers at mining giant BHP-Mitsubishi Alliance's four central Queensland coal mines have launched industrial action in a dispute over job security.
Protected industrial action is under way at the company's Blackwater, Saraji, Peak Downs and Goonyella Riverside mines with bans on overtime and step-up duties.
Workers will also stage five-hour stoppages on Friday at Peak Downs and Goonyella Riverside sites for the Moranbah Miners Memorial event, the Mining and Energy Union confirmed.
The event will be held in Moranbah town square for workers who have lost their lives in the industry.
"With coal prices so high, there is constant pressure to maintain and increase production, so we are confident our bans and stoppages will be felt," MEU Queensland District President Stephen Smyth said in a statement on Thursday.
BHP-Mitsubishi Alliance has been contacted for comment.
