QI presenter Sandi Toksvig cancels tour dates as she is admitted to hospital

Former Great British Bake Off co-host Sandi Toksvig is seriously ill in hospital. The comedian and QI presenter, 64, is currently in Australia but is suffering from bronchial pneumonia.

Sandi, who has also appeared on hit shows including Mock The Week and Have I Got News For You, has cancelled her upcoming shows in New Zealand, reports Coventry Live. A statement from her team, posted on Twitter, said: "Due to illness, Sandi has cancelled the New Zealand leg of her tour.

"She has been admitted to hospital with bronchial pneumonia while still in Australia and is unable to travel & perform. Our main priority is getting her home to the UK as soon as she is well enough - Team Toksvig".

Bronchopneumonia often comes from a bacterial infection, but viral and fungal infections can also cause it. Symptoms can include fever, coughing and difficulty breathing.

Fans were quick to respond to the statement from her team. Many said she had fought on gamely through her last stage shows in Australia despite seeming visibly ill. One said: "Saw her show in Sydney - she said she wasn’t 100% but you wouldn’t have known it.

"I now have an indelible memory of Sandi in maestro gear with her back to the audience facing a galaxy of stars as she led a full house in conducting Ode To Joy. Breathtaking!"

Another fan said:: "Wishing Sandi a speedy recovery. Stay where it’s warm darling xx". Yet another said: "Wishing Sandi a full and speedy recovery. Tell her to make sure she RESTS, even when she think's she's better."

Sandi's tour involved travelling across nine cites in Australia and New Zealand. The show has seen her share facts, stories and silly jokes in her quintessentially quirky, witty way.
