QB Anthony Richardson’s combine sure to fire up Steelers fans

Every year, a handful of prospects step up at the NFL Scouting Combine and far exceed expectations which in turn creates a ton of buzz around the prospects and their NFL draft status.

This year, Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson is that guy. Richardson came into the combine with a firm hold on the fourth spot in the quarterback hierarchy beyond C.J. Stroud, Bryce Young and Will Levis. But that could all change.

Richardson dominated the drills on Saturday. Here is how they broke down courtesy of NFL Rookie Watch:

Richardson leaped 10’09” in the broad jump, which is a QB record at the combine. Richardson jumped 40.5” in the vertical jump, which is a QB record at the combine. Richardson threw a ball at a velocity of 60 MPH, which is tied for 2nd all time at the combine. And Richardson posted a 4.43 in the 40-yard dash, which is the 4th fastest ever by a QB

Why should any of this matter to the Pittsburgh Steelers? Well for one thing, Richardson’s rise should push another player down to the Steelers pick at No. 17 who could be a target for the team. But for a chunk of the fanbase, this performance just ignites their fire for the Steelers to draft Richardson or another top quarterback to replace Kenny Pickett.

Before you scoff, keep in mind in a poll we ran here on Steelers Wire, 77.9 percent of voters said no. This means nearly one-quarter of the nearly 2,700 voters are on board with the idea of Pittsburgh already replacing Pickett after one season.

So let us know in the comments, if Richardson happens to land at No. 17, should the Steelers draft him.
