Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani revealed the terms of the Israel-Hamas ceasefire and hostage release agreement during a news conference in Doha. The agreement's first phase, spanning 42 days, will involve a ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from densely populated areas, the exchange of hostages and prisoners, the repatriation of deceased individuals, and the return of displaced Gazans to their homes.
As part of the initial phase, Hamas will release 33 hostages, including civilians, female soldiers, children, the elderly, and the sick, in exchange for an undisclosed number of Palestinian prisoners. Additionally, Gaza's wounded will be permitted to leave the enclave for medical treatment, and aid will be allowed into the Strip. Furthermore, hospitals and bakeries in Gaza will undergo necessary repairs.
Prime Minister Al Thani mentioned that the specifics of potential second and third phases will be determined during the initial phase of the agreement. The mediation process to finalize the agreement took 411 days, highlighting the complexity and deliberation involved in reaching this accord.
