Qatar strongly condemned on Tuesday the tearing of a copy of the Holy Quran by an extremist in The Hague, Netherlands.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that such acts provoke the feelings of more than two billion Muslims around the world.

It warned against allowing such acts from happening again under the pretext of freedom of expression.

It called on the world community to double its efforts and assume the responsibility to stop these deliberate offenses.

Kuwait also condemned the tearing of the Quran, saying such behavior agitates the feelings of Muslims all over the world.

It echoed Qatar’s demands that the international community intensify efforts to prevent such offensive acts from happening again in the future.

Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General Dr. Nayef Al-Hajraf strongly condemned the tearing of the Quran, saying it was provocative to Muslims across the globe.

He stressed the GCC’s firm stance that calls for spreading the values of dialogue, tolerance and coexistence and shunning hatred and extremism.

He urged the international community to assume its responsibility in stopping such acts.
