'QAnon Shaman' Jacob Chansley is released early from jail into halfway house

The "QAnon Shaman"Jacob Chansley, whose infamous horned and face-painted image went global after the January 6 riots, has been released from prison fourteen months early.

Chansley, 35, was sentenced to 41 months in jail after he pleaded guilty to storming Capitol Hill just as Congress was about to ratify Joe Biden's 2020 election win.

During the riots, Chansley was seen standing shirtless in a horned, coyote-fur headdress, and red, white and blue face paint as he shouted at police officers.

However, after serving just under 27 months, the Donald Trump supporter has been released from prison and into a Phoenix halfway house, according to the Bureau of Prison Records.

Albert S. Watkins, Chansley's former lawyer who handled his plea, said he was delighted he was being moved from prison to the custody of a halfway house.

He said: "'After serving eleven months in solitary prior to his sentence being imposed, and only 16 months of his sentence thereafter, it is appropriate this gentle and intelligent young man be permitted to move forward with the next stage of what undoubtedly will be a law abiding and enriching life.

"'I applaud the decision of the US Bureau of Prison in this regard."

Former president Donald Trump had demanded the release of Capitol riot prisoners after he responded to Tucker Carlson's "scoop" footage which falsely depicts the gathering as peaceful.

The former president responded to security video released from the January 6 on the US Capitol which was given to the Fox News host by Republican Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

The footage was handed over to Tucker Carlson to try and falsely portray the riot as a non-violent gathering.

Five people died during the storming of the US Capitol by Trump supporters and there is extensive footage of violence.

He wrote on the social media platform Truth: "Let the January 6 prisoners go. They are convicted, or are awaiting trial, based on a giant lie, a radical left con job.

"Thank you to Tucker Carlson and speaker of the house Kevin McCarthy for what you have both done. New video footage is irrefutable."

During the footage Mr Carlson described the January 6 rioters as "sightseers" who were "peaceful" - despite only airing a fraction of the video available.

He went on to say the footage "does not show an insurrection or a riot in progress" even though there is evidence of this.

But despite pleas from former president Mr Trump to release the Capitol Hill rioters early, lawyers believe it is highly unlikely it had any impact on his release.

Former federal prosecutor Neama Ramani said: "I don’t think it has anything to do with media [or] public pressure,' said Ramani, who is not connected with the case.

"Despite the violent nature of the Capitol riots, most of the rioters had little to no criminal history."
