PYRÃ: New Greek and Spanish restaurant to open in Queen's Park

A new restaurant inspired by the cuisines of Spain and Greece will open in Queen’s Park this week.

Pyrã is to be led by chef Mattia Caddeo, who was most recently the head chef at the Italian restaurant Salotto in the City.

Press material sent to the Standard said Caddeo “is a passionate culinary artist with a deep love for creating unforgettable dining experiences”.

Before Salotto, he worked in kitchens in Italy, Japan, and Moscow, having spent time training at the Arts Club Mayfair and with Alyn Williams at the Westbury.

At Pyrã, which will open on February 19, Caddeo will serve Mediterranean food based around fire cooking and tapas-style sharing plates.

The menu will include dishes such as shoulder of Pyrenean lamb, grilled octopus skewers, veal chop on the bone with a rosemary crust, paella arancini, prawns pil pil, and Basque beef short rib.

Specialities will include a whole leg of lamb for the table, and whole sea bass baked in a salt crust, and a 1kg Galician ribeye on the bone. For pudding, Ferro Rocher baklava and Basque cheesecake. Wines will be mostly Greek and Spanish.

As well as the restaurant, a listening bar will launch in an upstairs space. The Loft will host DJ nights, drinks and “laid-back vibes” and will also be open for private events.

Pyrã replaces the old Lula restaurant and is the vision of the restaurateur Andrew Dax, who founded Chameleon, a pop-up Tel Aviv-inspired venue at One Marylebone.

“Pyrã is about bringing people together over the flavours of Spain and Greece, two of the most soulful cuisines in the world,” he said.

“We’re creating a space where guests can unwind, share incredible food, listen to great music and make new memories.”
