Putin's ambition for total domination threatens Ukraine's statehood

Putin predicts Ukraine's statehood is at risk.

The statehood of Ukraine is being brought into question as Russian President Vladimir Putin predicts the conquest of Ukraine by Russia. Putin is openly expressing his desire for total domination of Ukraine, not just the annexation of a few regions. This revelation comes as Putin meets with the foreign minister of North Korea, a crucial ally supplying Russia with missiles to bomb Ukraine.

In response to the Russian offensive in eastern Ukraine, the United States has provided Ukraine with Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, which have proven to be instrumental in Ukrainian defense efforts. The armored vehicles, equipped with strong cannons and thermal scopes, have successfully targeted Russian troops and even defeated their armored vehicles, such as the T-90 main battle tank. Ukrainian commanders have expressed their indispensable reliance on the Bradleys, acknowledging that without them, they would have lost significant ground.

However, Ukraine's ability to continue its resistance and defense against the Russian invasion force is contingent upon ongoing support from the United States. Ukrainian officials fear that without additional funding for military aid, they may soon face ammunition shortages and be unable to effectively combat the Russian aggression. The lack of progress in Congress in approving the requested supplemental aid package has caused frustration among those who recognize the importance of supporting Ukraine and deterring Putin's ambitions.

Furthermore, the debate around border security in the United States is now intertwined with discussions on funding and aid for Ukraine. Former Director of National Intelligence, James Clapper, has expressed concern about the changing composition of border crossers, noting an increase in individuals from countries like China and Russia. Clapper warns that this poses a serious national security risk, as individuals with malicious intent may exploit weaknesses and enter the country illegally.

The border issue has become a political battleground, with some House Republicans refusing to support negotiations on border policy in fear of losing a political advantage against President Biden. However, there is a growing recognition that border policy reform is essential not only for national security but also to address the strain placed on communities overwhelmed by the influx of migrants.

As the statehood of Ukraine hangs in the balance, it is crucial for the United States to provide the necessary support to enable Ukraine to defend itself against the Russian invasion. The decisions made in Congress regarding funding for military aid and border policy will have significant implications for both Ukraine's sovereignty and US national security.
