Put the 'die' in diving with Dark Mass' fully underwater survival horror adventure

Dark Mass appearing in FGS Live from GDC.

As far as elevator pitches go Dark Mass' 'the first horror game set entirely in a fully submerged underwater manor' is certainly unique. Think Outlast or Amnesia, only underwater, and you'll have a rough idea idea of what to expect from a game putting the 'die' in diving (I'm so sorry).

Shown off at the Future Games Show, Dark Mass is a first person psychological horror game with a focus on narrative exploration. Playing as Alice, a deep sea diver, you'll uncover a mysterious sunken manor exposed after a seismic event. Inside you'll have to deal with monsters, solve horrific ritualistic puzzles inspired by real life Inquisition torture methods, and face off against a supernatural entity. All in an underwater environment that adds verticality - where danger can come from any direction in the depths.

It means swimming though claustrophobic submerged corridors and dark halls stretching in to the depths, as you try to unravel the mystery of how this underwater house came to be, and the powers that haunt it. The sea adds more than just a watery twist, affecting the physics of the world around you as you explore and interact with the entire environment.

You won't be alone at least, as Alice is backed up by her brother Reed who she can communicate with via a walkie-talkie system. The choices you make while speaking to him, as well as decisions you make while exploring, will help shape the story. What you decide will not only affect Alice's fate, but also what happens the dark presence beneath the waves

Dark Mass' underwater twist on narrative horror is currently targeting a Fall 2026 release date
