The civil war in Sudan is amongst the world's worst, yet it attracts fatally little diplomatic action. As international leaders meet in New York for the UN General Assembly, the body's secretary general raised the alarm about the escalation in the conflict, and a ministerial meeting tried to ramp up more support. But humanitarian leaders want to see more being tangibly done at the diplomatic level.

The world's youngest country is still struggling to emerge from a devastating civil war that officially ended in 2020 but continues to cast a long shadow. Human rights experts accuse the country's transitional leaders of dragging their feet over the implementation of the peace deal.
In business, Egypt has become the world’s leading date producer with 1.8 million tonnes produced this year. But its export figures are still lagging. The country plans to invest heavily in Medjool dates, which are experiencing soaring demand globally.
And girls get into gear in Cape Town. Known as the "Bicycle Mayor", Sindile Mavundla has been a leading figure in promoting the culture of cycling in the South African city. He helps first-time riders take to the open road, including young girls in impoverished communities where opportunities are hard to come by.
