A horrified dog owner has told how her pet pup was mauled in a brutal attack while walking in Strathclyde Country Park.
Dionne McKeown has been left "absolutely heartbroken" for her beloved pet Peaches after she was targeted by another dog at the Lanarkshire beauty spot yesterday afternoon.
The 17-week-old pup was savaged and has sustained several puncture wounds, a double elbow fracture and faces a potential amputation of the leg if the complex injury doesn't heal, Lanarkshire Live reports.
Dionne's pal Hannah Miller was also bitten during the incident as she tried to rescue the puppy from the other dog's grasp.
In a post on Facebook, that has already garnered more than 1000 shares and hundreds of comments of support for Peaches, Dionne said: "Absolutely heartbroken for my wee Peaches.
"Out a walk this afternoon with her auntie Hannah Miller and Pepper at Strathclyde Park and some absolutely evil out of control vicious dog has ran up and mauled her, started throwing her around and biting her like a stuffed toy.
"She has two punctures from where she has been picked up by the dog's mouth! Hannah was trying to get the dog off Peaches and ended up being bitten herself!
"Took Peaches to the vet and the vet wanted to X-ray her front right leg as she wasn’t putting any weight on it and it was just hanging - double fracture of the elbow - an extremely complex fracture and only specialists know how to correct it costing us thousands of pounds. The vet has also advised us that there is a chance it might not heal and she might need to have her whole leg amputated."
Dionne went on to say that she was "absolutely beside" herself and "raging" with the other dog's owner.
She continued: "The woman who owns the dog never even left any details and her attitude was absolutely stinking for someone whose dog just mauled a 17 week old puppy.
"I’m disgusted that our poor little puppy needs to have this surgery and don’t think this dog should be walking the streets!!! Imagine it was a child."
Dionne's post also saw her ask for any further information and called for the dog to be "destroyed" with hundreds of people blasting the owner.
Alyson Rodda said: "Irresponsible dog owner yet again and it will still be off a lead to do it again no doubt. She definitely needs to be sorted. They need to start dishing out hefty fines then maybe these ignorant dog owners with unpredictable dogs would think twice.
"Hope she makes a full recovery poor baby."
Whilst Maz Oxford added: "This woman needs to be made accountable as she is an irresponsible dog owner to have her dog not in control in a public place. Poor pup hope she makes a full recovery bless her.
And Elizabeth Bowers said: "OMG this is awful. Why do people have uncontrolled dogs off lead. Makes me so angry. Hope she makes a full recovery. So so sad and unavoidable."
