Puppy dumped outside RSPCA centre doesn't understand why he was abandoned

An adorable puppy who was dumped outside an RSPCA centre is desperately searching for a new home.

Nine-month-old Koda was taken in by the RSPCA's Hull and East Riding Animal Centre after a team member found him on their doorstep.

The lurcher has been described as a "big friendly giant who just wants all the love, affection, and attention he can possibly get."

An RSPCA statement reads: "Koda came into our care after being dumped outside of our centre before one of our lovely animal care assistants brought him in where he has been spoilt as much as he can with us.

"He is a curious lurcher who just wants to see everything he can while exploring his surroundings."

He can live with primary-aged children (RSPCA)

As Koda still has a lot to learn, he would be best suited to a patient owner who would be able to control his excitement. He can live with primary-aged children and another dog following "careful introductions" at the rescue centre.

The statement adds: "All this pup needs is a forever home where he can go on lots of fun adventures playing in water, running about retrieving toys and then have a nice comfy space to relax and get ready for his next adventure.

"As Koda is still fairly young his new family will need to be patient while he learns new tricks and commands on his journey, however, as Koda is incredibly motivated by food, training this intelligent boy shouldn’t be too much of a chore.

He is currently staying at the RSPCA's Hull and East Riding Animal Centre (RSPCA)

"A lot of time has gone into making sure Koda is as comfortable as possible with the people he meets, although, he can still be nervous around men but is generally a joyful play orientated companion. During Koda’s time in our care, he has been kennel clean."

The RSPCA is urging people to turn to adoption centres rather than breeders when wanting to welcome a new pet into their home.

"While it may be easy to find animals on the internet or even spend hundreds on an expensive breeder, you could risk heartache or huge vet's bills if you don't do your homework," a statement reads.

"By adopting and not shopping you'll also feel good for doing good - by giving an animal a second chance at life in a loving home!

"Plus, adopting from us means that you can relax knowing that all our animals are healthy, neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.

"As with all the animals we rehome, we'll pass on the details of their behaviour and veterinary treatment. You'll likely know more about your rescue animal's history than if you were to buy an animal online!

"We've taken the time to get to know each animal as an individual, to understand their likes and dislikes and to prepare them for life in a loving family, which means there are less likely to be nasty surprises when you get home!

"When you adopt a cat or a dog from one of our centres, you'll also get four weeks free pet insurance, which is vital to protect your pet's future as well as your bank balance! There's so much to gain from rescuing an animal in need."

If you're interested in rehoming Koda, or any other dogs at the RSPCA's Hull and East Riding Animal Centre, contact their team on 01482 341331.

The centre is open from 11am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm every day except Wednesdays.
