A 12-year-old boy is recovering in hospital after a horror fall at an East Kilbride high school.
The first year pupil reportedly plunged two floors down a stairwell at St Andrew's and St Bride's secondary yesterday lunchtime.
It is understood the boy is being treated for arm, back, shoulder and head injuries but they are not thought to be serious.
A source told Lanarkshire Live distressed pupils and teachers who witnessed the accident were reportedly "in tears" with some children "receiving counselling".
They said: "A kid fell three stories in a stairwell in St Brides today. Heard he’s in a bad way. Teachers crying, kids needing counselling."
Fellow pupils have been posting 'get well soon' messages to the boy on social media.
South Lanarkshire Council confirmed the incident earlier today and said a health and safety review was taking place.
It is understood the incident is not being treated as suspicious.
A council spokesperson said: "We can confirm that a pupil was taken to hospital for treatment after the accident and is recovering well. A Health & Safety review is taking place.
"Any pupils who required assistance after witnessing the incident on Thursday were attended to in the most appropriate manner to each of them."
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We received a call at 1.18pm on February 2, 2023 to attend an incident at St Andrew's and St Bride's High School, East Kilbride.
"Two ambulances and a trauma team were dispatched to the scene and a patient was transported to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow."
