MANSA: A 6.5-foot tall statue of slain Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala was unveiled at his native village in Mansa on Sunday. The singer's father Balkaur Singh broke down at the unveiling of the statue, saying it was "unfortunate to see him in stone at 28." The statue was carried to the installation point in the singer's fields on his favourite 5911 tractor. Earlier a fan had put his bust at the place.
Long goodbye: Seeing Moose Wala in stone breaks father
Within 50 days of the murder of Punjabi singer Shubhdeep Singh 'Sidhu Moose Wala', the fans have raised his statue where he was cremated in Moosa village. At its unveiling on Sunday, his father Balkaur Singh said that to see him in stone at 28 was "unfortunate".
Sculptor Iqbal Gill of Manuke took 25 days to prepare the 6.5-foot tall metallic fibre bust, and he handed it over to the family a few days ago. The statue was carried to the installation point through the singer's fields on his favourite 5911 tractor. His parents, Balkaur Singh and Charan Kaur unveiled it.
Earlier, a fan had put his bust at the place and seeing the daily crowd it attracted, the family had put up a shed over it and placed a sign asking the visitors to plant a sapling each in his memory. Apart from Iqbal Gill, Manjit Singh of Ghal Kalan has also prepared a sculpture of Moose Wala by joining three layers. He said: "I put all my energies in making it to the liking of Moose Wala's fans and the family. The family approved its installation."
At the unveiling of Iqbal's work in Moosa, the singer's father said: "I can't bear to see my son as a statue at 28. We wait for justice. The killers, whether sitting on foreign soil or here, should be punished. Why give security to someone who claims openly that he killed Moose Wala."
