‘Punishable offence’ - Fans make Cristiano Ronaldo plea after Manchester United beat Leicester

A number of Manchester United supporters want Erik ten Hag to bring Cristiano Ronaldo back into the starting XI against Arsenal on Sunday amid fears about a lack of goals being scored.

The Reds have recorded three consecutive Premier League wins for the first time since December following their 1-0 win over Leicester on Thursday night, a win that sends the club up to fifth in the table after five games.

It’s quite a turnaround since the abysmal first two games of the season, in which they conceded six and scored once, which was an own goal. But a fantastic 2-1 win over Liverpool and one-goal victories over Southampton and the Foxes has got United fans believing again.

Jadon Sancho was the hero at the King Power Stadium, stylishly rounding Danny Ward before his cool finish sending supporters in the away end wild. Leicester came on stronger in the second half but a sturdy defensive effort saw the club record a second straight clean sheet.

But while fans are pleased with the points on the board, they are apprehensive ahead of Arsenal’s visit to Old Trafford. Some of those watching the early stages of the game claimed that United looked freer without Cristiano Ronaldo on the pitch, the superstar being benched for a third game in a row.

Marcus Rashford - who assisted Sancho - was given the nod up top again with Anthony Martial injured. However, by the end of the match, some supporters on Twitter were left unimpressed by Rashford’s overall performance and were encouraged by Ronaldo’s 22-minute substitute outing.

@obajemujnr_: Ronaldo has done more in five minutes than Rashford in 85 minutes.

@ChiFanSoxMick: One goal for these blokes ain’t gonna cut it against Arsenal. Start Ronaldo.

@hilda_adaora: You cannot have Ronaldo on the bench and play Rashford/Elanga. It's a punishable offence. Three wins in a row and our goal difference is still in deficit. Really?!

@keyse: Ronaldo looked much better than Elanga. Needs to start vs Arsenal and future games if United wants serious results.

@JayDeng87119503: If we want to get a result on Sunday, bench Rashford and Eriksen. Start CR7 and Antony.
